How to: Install a serial touchpad.
Solution:
Turn off the computer, connect the new touchpad to a serial port, and turn on the computer.
NOTE: Install a serial touchpad driver if necessary.
1) Shutdown Windows 95, and turn off the computer.
2) Connect the new touchpad to a serial port on the back of the computer.
NOTE 1: Serial port connectors are commonly a 9 pin (DB9) or 25 pin (DB25) female adapter. Touchpads use a 9 pin (DB9) connector.
NOTE 2: A touchpad can be connected to a 25 pin (DB25) adapter using a 25 pin male to 9 pin female converter.
3) Turn on the computer.
NOTE: Windows 95 may auto-detect the touchpad as a mouse and configure the touchpad.
4) If the touchpad was not auto-detected, install the touchpad driver.
NOTE 1: A touchpad is an alternative to a mouse as a pointing device, and cannot be used while a mouse is installed on the computer.
NOTE 2: If your computer has a PS/2 port, you may need to disable the PS/2 port before installing the new touchpad.
NOTE 3: The touchpad installation disk may include a program that will 'test' the touchpad installation (typically named test.com). Refer to the touchpad installation manual for detailed configuration information.
